Marriage Licenses

WHERE TO APPLY FOR YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE

Marriage licenses are issued in the Recorder's Office located in Room 105 of the Courthouse. Office hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If you will be married in Idaho, you must obtain a marriage license. If you are to be married in another state, you will need to get a license from that state.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED IF YOU ARE OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE

Both people need to appear at the courthouse in person.

  • Both need forms of photo identification.
  • Both must have and bring a Social Security Card.
  • Idaho Statue Title 32, Chapter 4:
  1. The Requirement that an applicant provide a social security number shall apply only to applicants who have been assigned a social security number.
  2. An applicant who has not been assigned a social security number shall:
    • Present written verification from the social security administration that the applicant has not been assigned a social security number; and
    • Submit a birth certificate, passport  or other documentary evidence issued by an entity other than a state or the United States; and
    • Submit such proof as the department may require that the applicant is lawfully present in the United States.
  • Complete marriage license application forms.
  • Cost: $28.00

Two copies are issued -- one is a decorative keepsake copy for the couple, the other is to be sent in by the officiant of the ceremony to be recorded.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED IF YOU ARE UNDER 18 YEARS AND NOT LESS THAN 16 YEARS OF AGE

  • Both people need to appear at the courthouse in person.

  • Both need forms of photo identification.

  • Both must have and bring a Social Security Card.

  • One parent must be present, provide photo ID, applicant's birth certificate and sign provided documents for each applicant under 18.

  • Complete marriage license application forms.

  • Cost: $28.00

WHAT YOU WILL NEED IF YOU ARE UNDER 16 YEARS OF AGE

If one or both applicants are under 16 years of age, he/she/they must obtain a court order from a Magistrate Judge permitting the underage applicant(s) to marry.

  • Both people need to appear at the courthouse in person with a certified copy of a court order allowing a marriage to be entered into.

  • Both applicants need forms of photo identification.

  • Both applicants must have and bring a Social Security Card.

  • One parent must be present, provide photo ID, applicant's birth certificate and sign provided documents for each applicant under 16.

  • Complete marriage license application forms.

  • Cost: $28.00

WHO CAN PERFORM THE WEDDING CEREMONY?

Judge, Mayor or Minister. To schedule an appointment with a judge, call 208-878-0180 .The Mayor may be contacted at 878-2224.  The minister may be anyone of your choice that is ordained to perform marriages.

Our office hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. We prefer that you come before 4:30 p.m. to allow time for the completion of requirements and issuance of the marriage license.  There is no guarantee that a license will be issued to a couple after that time.
